Girls on the Run sessions are held over a 10 week period in the Fall and Spring. The program meets two days a week for 75 - 90 minutes. Girls on the Run serves girls in 3rd-5th grade and Heart & Sole serves girls in 6th-8th grade.
All girls are encouraged to join the program regardless of previous running experience and level of physical fitness. Over the course of 10-weeks, the girls are adequately trained to complete a 5K (3.1 miles) run, however, we are not just a running club. Running is the tool used to teach girls important and essential life skills, and an appreciation of health and fitness is incorporated into each practice. At our core, we are a non-competitive character development program designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences.
The Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them. Then, we look at the importance of team work and healthy relationships. And, finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world through a team-developed community service project.
