girls a brighter future.
Girls on the Run sessions are held over a 10 week period in the Fall and Spring. The program meets two days a week for 75 minutes. Girls on the Run serves girls in 3rd-5th grade and Heart & Sole serves girls in 6th-8thgrade. All girls are encouraged to join the program regardless of previous running experience and level of physical fitness. We are a non-competitive program designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences.
Online registration for the Fall 2017 season opens in August. Practices begin the week of August 28th, 2017 (Note: start date of August 24th, 2017 for Shreve Island Elementary). The season lasts 10 weeks and ends with a celebratory 5K at AC Steere Park. Our end-of-season 5K is open to the public.
Registration for the Girls on the Run programming is $150 per girl. Scholarships and financial aid are available. Thank you to our sponsors for making this possible! Please contact us at 318-425-9336 for more information. During the season each girl will receive: 2 Girls on the Run t-shirts (one program shirt + one 5K shirt), a Girls on the Run water bottle, a 5K race bag, automatic registration for our end-of-season 5K, a 5K finishers' medal, healthy snacks at practice
It is very important for your girl to attend both sessions each week because the lessons build up from one to the next and because group relationships build over time. Girls are not allowed to sign up for one session a week. If you know your girl can't make it to both sessions each week, please do not sign up - leave room for a girl who can. A girl who is absent more than 4 times may be removed from the program for the rest of the season.
Respectful Behavior Policy
Girls are expected to behave in a way that permits the coaches to carry out the day’s scheduled activities. Girls who are continually disruptive in a way that prevents the rest of the group from experiencing the benefits of the program may be asked to leave for the rest of the season. A child who engages in behavior that threatens the health or welfare of other participants, administrators or coaches will be released from the program for the remainder of the season. Threatening behavior may include but is not limited to: physical injury, emotional mistreatment, abuse of prescription or illegal drugs, use of alcohol, carrying firearms or other dangerous items, using any item in a dangerous way, or any other activity determined by a coach or administrator to be threatening of another person’s health or well-being. Girls on the Run, its coaches, and administrators reserve the right to remove from participation any child who for any reason does not fit the mission and goals of the organization.
Running Buddy Reminder for the 5K
All girls in the GOTR/Heart & Sole program will complete their season with a celebratory 5K. It is Girls on the Run policy that all girls run the 5K with a Running Buddy. This is to ensure the safety of all of our program participants. Please note: All Running Buddies must register for the 5K as community runners. If you, or a family member or friend, plans to run with your daughter as a Running Buddy, 5K registration will be available on www.GOTRShreveport.org and the cost is $30. If your daughter does not have a Running Buddy, we will provide one for her. Look for reminders throughout the season about this process. We know your daughter will be excited to have extra support along the course!
Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we are able to provide running shoes for your daughter if she needs them. Just let us know!
Save the Date for our 5K
Our Fall 2017 end of season 5K will be Saturday morning, November 18, 2017 at AC Steere Park. Details will be emailed to you throughout the season.
